Ingredients:
For the Beef Filling:
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef or thinly sliced steak
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 1 small red bell pepper, julienned
- 1 small yellow bell pepper, julienned
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-2 jalapeño peppers, thinly sliced (adjust to taste)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 3 tbsp barbecue sauce
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp chili powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Sandwich:
- 4 slices of your favorite bread (sourdough, ciabatta, or French bread work great)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
- 2 tbsp butter, softened
- Optional toppings: thinly sliced red onion, fresh cilantro
Instructions:
- Prepare the Beef Filling:
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
- Add the ground beef or steak strips and cook until browned. Break up any clumps of ground beef.
- Toss in the onion, bell peppers, and jalapeño slices. Sauté until the vegetables are soft and slightly caramelized.
- Stir in the barbecue sauce, soy sauce, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.
- Assemble the Sandwich:
- Preheat a grill pan or skillet over medium heat.
- Butter one side of each bread slice. Place a slice (buttered side down) onto the skillet.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly across the bread slice, then layer on the beef filling.
- Add optional toppings like red onion or cilantro if desired.
- Top with more shredded cheese and cover with another slice of bread (buttered side up).
- Grill the Sandwich:
- Cook each sandwich for 2-3 minutes per side, pressing down gently with a spatula to get a crispy, golden crust.
- Once the cheese has melted and the bread is golden brown, remove the sandwich from the pan.
- Serve:
- Slice the sandwiches in half and serve hot. Pair them with chips, a side salad, or fries for a satisfying meal!
Tips:
- To make it extra spicy, add a drizzle of hot sauce or sriracha on the beef filling.
- Experiment with different cheeses like pepper jack for more flavor.
- You can prepare the beef filling ahead of time and store it in the fridge for up to 2 days.
