chicken Parmesan Sub Recipe
Ingredients (Makes 4 Subs):
- 4 sub rolls or hoagie buns
- 4 breaded chicken cutlets (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 1/2 cups marinara sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Fresh basil leaves (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Chicken:
- If using store-bought breaded chicken cutlets, cook them according to package instructions until golden and crispy.
- If making from scratch, bread chicken cutlets by dipping them in flour, then beaten egg, and finally a mixture of breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan. Pan-fry in olive oil until cooked through and crispy.
- Warm the Marinara Sauce:
In a small saucepan, heat the marinara sauce over low-medium heat until warmed through. Stir occasionally. - Toast the Rolls:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the sub rolls in half lengthwise without cutting all the way through. Place them on a baking sheet, cut-side up, and lightly brush with olive oil. Sprinkle with garlic powder and oregano. Toast in the oven for about 3-4 minutes until slightly crispy. - Assemble the Subs:
- Place a cooked chicken cutlet into each toasted roll.
- Spoon about 1/4 cup of marinara sauce over each cutlet, spreading evenly.
- Top with shredded mozzarella and a sprinkle of grated Parmesan.
- Melt the Cheese:
Place the assembled subs back onto the baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly. - Finish and Serve:
Remove from the oven and garnish with fresh basil leaves, if desired. Serve hot, paired with a side salad, fries, or chips.
Tips for Customization:
- Use whole-grain rolls or ciabatta for a healthier or more gourmet option.
- Add sliced banana peppers or caramelized onions for extra flavor.
- Substitute marinara with spicy arrabbiata sauce for a kick.
This Chicken Parmesan Sub is perfect for a cozy dinner or a hearty lunch option!
